Women's Opportunity Center at the Burlington County YMCA - Helping Women Through Major Transitions

 

Our Services

The Women’s Opportunity Center is designed to assist you if:

You have lost emotional or financial support as the result of separation, divorce, death or disability of a spouse.

-And-

~You are a single head of a household
~Can’t make ends meet
~Need to learn new skills
~Need community referrals and/or support services.

These services are provided to any New Jersey resident who is a Displaced Homemaker.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are offered regularly. A Pre-employment series runs weekly workshops January through April and includes such topics as "Putting Your Best Foot Forward," "The Art of Interviewing," and "How to Work a Room." Volunteer attorneys donate their time to conduct Legal Workshops and provide information about the implications of separation and divorce. Current Workshops

COMPUTER CLASSES

Computer classes are held monthly. Participants of the WOC can come to practice their newly acquired skills in our computer lab. Current Computer Classes

SUPPORT SERVICES

Support services are diverse and include: intensive case management, referrals, and emotional support as women remove the barriers to employment. As a result of our services, women achieve short, intermediate, and long-term goals as they move toward self-sufficiency.

EMERGENCY SUPPORT

The WOC, through donations by private individuals and local merchants, provides food and clothing for needy families. Our Center has Operation Holidays, giving women and families donations of food, clothes and toys. Ongoing holiday food baskets are given to targeted needy program participants and their children.
